This is an original sculpture of a short-eared owl. This short-eared owl was made using the process of needle felting, a form of sculpting where one uses special barbed needles to shape wool. The process involves making repeated jabs into wool batting or roving, causing the fibers to interlock and become compressed together, forming felt. Different colors and felted pieces are layered and attached, building up and shaping the desired three dimensional form. There is no armature used in this piece.
This owl is mounted to a circular painting done with acrylic on wood panel. is A wooden dowel has been set into the painting panel and extends out and into the back of the owl and is adhered using archival acrylic gel medium.
This piece measures 12″ x 12″ x 8″ and is ready to hang on the wall.
