Join us for a weekend of needle felting as you learn how to make a beautiful moon bear in a relaxed and supportive environment. In this advanced level workshop, you will learn how to make your own free standing needle felted moon bear from start to finish. Time permitting, you will have the option of adorning your bear with a needle felted botanical motif.
It is recommended that you have a good understanding of needle felting techniques and tools, as well as several completed three dimensional projects under your belt before taking this workshop. All materials are included, and you will get to take your set of felting needles and foam pad home too. Lunch on both days is included, as well as freshly brewed coffee and tea. (Please contact me if you have any dietary restrictions.)
About our needle felting subject for the weekend:
The Moon Bear is also known as an Asiatic black bear or a white-chested bear, and is known for the beautiful white crescent shape on its chest, resembling a waning moon.
Grey Fox Mercantile announces its newest upcoming exhibition: Studies by Marc-Anthony Polizzi. The exhibition will be on display from May 3 – June 1, 2019. The show will feature a collection of new sculptures. There will be a reception on Saturday, May 11 from 2pm – 4pm with live music and light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.
Polizzi’s work has been shown in cities across the United States, including Chicago, New York City, New Orleans, and Kansas City. He has also appeared in numerous publications from New Glass Review (Corning Museum of Glass) to Staging Spaces, Scenic Interiors (Gestalten Publishing). His current body of work further developed while in residency at Sculpture Space, a time that allowed him to establish new techniques and experiment with paint, texture, and form.
After running Grey Fox Felting for four years, I’ve decided to expand my business into Grey Fox Mercantile, a collaboration between my husband and me, and our first brick and mortar storefront! We’ve located a perfect location in our hometown of New Hartford, NY, we’ve signed the lease, and we’ve started working on the 700 square feet that will become our retail and workshop space.
In this space, we plan to offer our full in-house line of felting kits and original felted animal sculptures, the beautiful selection of felting wool in virtually every color imaginable that you’ve come to know through our online presence, as well as a curated selection of handmade goods by artisans we love. We will host free craft nights for the community, and we will offer workshops and fiber arts-based birthday/special occasion parties for guests of all ages. We’re working really hard to transform this space to make it a truly unique place to learn about fiber arts and find beautiful artisan goods.
We’re planning to open this spring, and we can’t wait to welcome you! If you’d like to follow along on our progress, you can find us on Instagram @greyfoxmercantile and @greyfoxfelting
