Viscose fiber has a soft and smooth texture with a lovely sheen, and is often used as a cost-effective alternative to silk. This semi-synthetic fiber is made from wood pulp, which is processed into cellulose and then regenerated it into the silky fiber you see here. Viscose works beautifully in wet felted garments where the fibers get worked into the felted wool to make unique organic patterns and create a silky and shiny surface finish. It also makes a lovely addition to needled felted wool paintings and sculptures where you might desire a unique texture and a bit of sheen and luster. Because viscose fibers do not have the same qualities as wool, it will not felt on its own. it needs to be either blended with another fiber before felting; or if using on its own, work it into an easily felting fiber such as wool. This viscose roving can also be blended with other fibers for spinning.
For wet felting:
Lay pieces of the viscose fiber out over your base of wool before felting; then proceed to wet felt all the fibers together to allow the viscose to become attached into the wool.
For needle felting:
Use in small amounts over a base of felted wool or hand blend with wool fiber before felting. Combining the viscose with wool will allow the needle to grip both types of fiber and felt them together.
