I am very excited to introduce this beautiful Merino Wool/Silk Blend roving to the shop! This roving is 70% extra fine merino wool and 30% tussah silk. The merino is 19 microns, and the silk is combed sliver. Merino wool is a beautiful material to work with and is known for its softness and gentle sheen, and the silk in this blend gives it an extra lustrous look and feel. It has many uses in fiber and textile art such as needle felting, wet felting, nuno felting, spinning, weaving, and arm/giant knitting.
This color is Parrot, a fresh, warm green with varying shade and tints of green and yellow. This listing is for 1 oz., which is the amount shown in the photograph. Larger amounts in continuous lengths can be ordered upon request.
The silk component in this blend adds a beautiful extra sheen, and I find it best suited for wet felted garments where the silk fibers get worked into the felted wool to make beautiful organic patterns. It also makes a lovely addition to wool paintings where highlights and a bit of sheen and luster are desired. It wet felts quickly and easily to a very smooth finish. If using in a more three-dimensional needle felted sculptural project, I recommend working with it as a light layer over a base of needle felting wool that has a bit more coarseness and crimp, such as my core wool batting or the other blended roving and batting available in my shop. This will allow the needle to grip more easily and the material to felt up faster.
This fiber has been ethically sourced and is mulesing free. It is processed in Italy, and all dyes comply with the Oeko Tex Standard 100 parameters.
