Learn the satisfying art of needle felting in this fun and colorful workshop! Erin of Grey Fox Felting will introduce you to the techniques and materials used in needle felting, as you create your own felted quilt star design. This workshop will focus on creating a two-dimensional felted work of art as we apply fluffy bits of wool directly onto a piece of linen fabric. We'll go over how to thoroughly cover a selected area with wool and how to make clean edges to separate each color. We'll finish our pieces by framing them in a wood embroidery hoop, ready to hang on your wall and give a pop of color to your favorite space.

This workshop will take place virtually over a live Zoom session. The class will be recorded and available to anyone wishing to participate in the class who is unable to attend the live session.

Upon purchasing the class, a Zoom link for the live session will be emailed to the address provided. If you have selected the Class & Supplies option, your materials kit will be mailed to you.

Below is the materials list, which you will receive in your supplies kit if you select for the Class & Supplies option:

  • linen fabric with the quilt star pattern drawn onto it
  • 3" wood embroidery hoop
  • assortment of wool in colors pictured here
  • #38 star felting needles
  • foam felting mat

Additional supplies needed:

  • small, sharp scissors
  • paper or fabric for backing (if desired) - large enough to cover entire back of hoop
  • glue for adhering backing (I prefer Aileen's Tacky glue, but a hot glue gun or acrylic gel medium will also work.)

Curious about how needle felting works? This satisfying process involves making repeated pokes into unspun wool fiber using a special barbed needle. When the needle goes into the wool, the microscopic scales on the fibers catch on the barbs and the fiber becomes tangled and matted together, forming felt. The more pokes you make in one area, the more felted that section becomes. It's an immediately satisfying and very forgiving medium to work in, and many people find it to be therapeutic as well!

This workshop is beginner friendly and is recommended for ages 12+.
